I began my paleo journey close to four years ago, as part of a long journey from alcohol and substance abuse to recovery and health. Paleo has allowed me to become the person I had always wanted to be and do the things I always wanted to do. Since embracing the paleo lifestyle, I’ve started three of my own businesses; I’ve gotten complete control over how much I work and how much time I devote to other life pursuits I enjoy; I’ve written two books; I’ve gone from nearly killing myself with drugs and alcohol to having my face on an advertisement for the semi-finals of a Muay Thai tournament I fought in New York City.
I have always wanted a way to help people in life, and I feel like in FastPaleo.com, I have finally found it. To be honest, I never would have expected food to be my way of doing good in the world—I remember clearly quitting my job as a line cook some ten years ago and thinking “You’ll never change the world with food.” Well after many twists and turns, I’ve found myself in an unexpected, yet very happy position. To me, paleo is life, and life is paleo.

I spent my childhood in a small provincial town in Germany, where unbeknownst to me, I was eating almost all the right things, from fresh eggs and grassfed beef, to raw milk and homegrown vegetables. Sadly, bread and pasta were also stables of my diet, and I managed to spend my entire allowance on candy. Is it any surprise that I went on my first diet at sweet 16? For years I paid no attention to what exactly went into my body. After all, I was a great cook. That ought to be enough, right? Of course that meant consistent weight gain and loss.
My career life was as inconsistent as my weight. Up and down it went… job after job… diet after diet. Only a couple of years ago I realized that my true calling lay in writing, and the way to a healthy weight lay in eating a paleo diet (after reading every paleo book out there). I’ve lost 30lbs and maintained my weight, I actually sleep regularly, and I feel all around better. I self-published a short novel, called “Planned” under the pen name of Gabrielle Moon, started writing articles for magazines, and taught a paleo class to adults. 2012 has been a fantastic year. I started my blog Grokette’s Primal Musings (http://grokettesprimalmusings.blogspot.com), became addicted to Crossfit, and finally found my job at FastPaleo.com. Things have truly fallen into place, and I’m grateful to be on this great journey.
