what is the ghee for; when does it get used?

  2. im not sure what the ghee is used for either, since its not mentioned in the recipe. this is my first day on the paleo diet and i feel that this website has lots of great recipes, i have the lime almond coconut bars in the fridge right now! this recipe although my boyfriend liked it, i thought was a little off the wall in terms of flavors. but don’t let this dispel you because i think its a great fall recipe AND I’m a little picky and just getting used to the paleo diet since its my first day– maybe i need to get more accustomed to the raw flavors. i might try making it again as i experience more paleo recipes.

  3. I would assume it is added as you serve it. Think butter!?!

  4. I added a small onion, shopped. It gave it more flavor. This recipe would also be good w/cubed or ground chicken.

  5. Ghee is animal fat (I think) but it’s used like you would use butter or oil to fry.

Ghee is clarified butter. :) And yes, you use it just like butter to cook.

  7. It’s okay. I’d try adding the onion next time, as someone else suggested. Also, 10 minutes to boil the sweet potatoes might be a bit long. Mine made the dish all mushy :(
I do want to attempt to make this again, with the forementioned adjustments.

  8. I made this recipe and substituted the beef with bacon – delicious!

  9. I made this last night. It’s my first week of Paleo and I found the meal to be delicious! I added the ghee about 2 minutes before it was done and mixed it in. The only problem I had was the meat I used was frozen so when I browned it it got all brown and then too done by the time I added the other ingredients in and cooked some more. Next time I will definitely use thawed meat. I will definitely be making this again. Yum!

  10. I too am a new paleo dieter. We made this using breakfast sausage! It was excellent. Cubed the sweet potatoes and cooked them in with the sausage as soon as the sausage was mostly brown. Turned heat down to med-low and cooked till potatoes were tender. Did not add apples till potatoes were almost done. Oh and we also added the onion. The sausage gave it a little kick and it most excellent!
