Do you need to brown the meat before putting it in the crock pot?

Everything I’ve ever read about crockpot cooking has specified ground beef should always be browned/cooked before using in the crockpot. Other whole cuts of meat do not have to be cooked. I honestly am not sure why and I haven’t really researched the subject further.

P.S. – I made this chili recipe and it was delicious! If you’re concerned about using stock, you could probably substitute it with water. Be sure to watch the ingredients on the stocks and the chili powder!

You don’t have to… But it will make it a little greasy

Fabulous chili, browned the beef before, cuts down on cooking time. I will be making again! T

Great smell while cooking, not much flavor while eating… Kinda bummed.

I LOOOOVE pumpkin and I love chili .. I just tried this tonight and I must say that this is pretty good! It took a little bit of salt and some hot sauce to complete. Overall, pretty satisfied and it made quite a bit for leftovers
